Easily Turn Flair Jeans into Bootcut or Skinny Jeans

Easily turn flair jeans into bootcut or skinny jeans

You know that giant pile of jeans in your closet? You know how you only wear four of them? Well that can change! In this useful post I’m going to show you how to turn your old flair jeans into fashionable bootcut or skinny jeans.

Supplies you’ll need:

  1. Flair jeans (Can be old or can be purchased for cheap at a second hand store)
  2. Sewing machine
  3. Thread (Close to the color of your jeans)
  4. Scissors
  5. Pincushion & pins

Step ONE
Put on jeans inside out. Pull outer fabric on ONE leg to the desired fit (bootcut, skinny, somewhere in-between, etc., don’t worry about the other leg yet).
Pin along outside of leg to desired fit.

Step TWO
Take off jeans and lay them on the floor or table. Make sure all pins are aligned following a smooth line (not necessarily straight).

Sew along pin line starting at the top where the pins begin to the bottom of the jean leg.

Try on jeans inside out again and see if it fits how you intended. If necessary, take off jeans and make adjustments with the sewing machine.
(Remember, if doubtful start off sewing the jean leg wider/bigger than you think it should be. It’s much easier to sew the leg smaller than rip seams and start over.)

Fold jeans in half (the sewn leg right above the non-sewn one). Fold back sewn leg where the stitch line is. Pin along the stitch line on the non-sewn leg (to match the stitch line of the sewn leg).

Step SIX
Sew along the pin line and try on the jeans again. Make adjustments if necessary.

Cut slack off each jean leg along stitch line.
(Make sure not to get too close or the stitches may pull and unravel.)

Put on jeans and you’re done! You just turned your old jeans into a pair you’ll finally wear. Now go out and show them off!
