Everyone loves the sincerity and personalization of a homemade card, and with all that time, energy, and effort put into it, don’t you think it deserves an envelope as well? Here I’m going to show to you how to easily create a beautiful, personalized envelope.
Supplies you’ll need:
- Thicker paper for your envelope (I used an old piece of thick wrapping paper. As you can see it doesn’t have to be in top condition)
- Glue stick
Find a printable envelope template website such as this one.
Download the template of the desired size and shape envelope.
You’ll notice that the envelope template size is too large to print one one standard 8.5″ x 11″ piece of printing paper. Follow along for the solution.
Open template in “Preview” mode on you computer. (If you used the website I provided the template should already be open in “Preview.”)
Click the “Rectangular Selection” tool and select the left portion of the envelope on the screen.
Using your keyboard shortcut tools, hold down “Command” and click “c” to copy selected portion of the template.
Next, hold down “Command” and click “n” to open the copied selected portion of the template in a new window.
Hold down “Command” and click “p” to print selected portion of the template. Before printing, make sure to click the scale image option (not scale to fit page) and type in “100%.” Print page.
Repeat steps three to five but select the right portion of the envelope instead of the left.
Make sure to overlap the selections a bit in the middle for template constructing purposes.
Align the two printouts and cut off the majority of ONE of the overlapping sides.
Tape the two sides together. With a ruler measure to make sure envelope template it is the correct width.
Cut out template.
Tace template on the wrong side of the thick paper.
Using a ruler and a pencil, connect the sides of the envelope where the flaps are located for easier folding.
Cut out envelope.
Fold all four flaps of the envelope. Glue the bottom flap to the two side flaps with a glue stick making sure not to glue the envelope closed.
You’re done! You just made a homemade envelope for your beautiful homemade card/gift card/store bought card you wanted to jazz up.
Be sure to keep the template you printed out and taped together for future use!
